피겨선수의 날에 의해 공중으로 흩뿌려진 Ice spray를 컨셉으로 한 지난 Light shade에서 영감을 받았다. Ice spray를 구성하는 작은 얼음 입자와 볼륨감있는 반사광을 선사하는 Light shade의 조건을 탐구해보았다.
Inspired by a previous Light Shade project that took its concept from the ice spray scattered into the air by a figure skater’s blades, this study explores the conditions of a light shade that evokes both the fine ice particles composing the spray and the voluminous reflected light they produce.
Light shade는 모든 방향으로 빛을 반사하는 멀티 레이어의 구형, 그리고 이 형태로 하여금 흩뿌려진 빛이 고루 퍼지도록 표면에 다양한 모양의 조각으로 구성되었다. 이로써 내부의 빛을 사용자에게 디자인해 보여준다.
The Light Shade is conceived as a multi-layered sphere that reflects light in all directions. Its surface is composed of fragments of varied geometries, allowing the dispersed light to spread evenly across the form. Through this configuration, the internal light is deliberately designed and presented to the user.
Design
표면의 조각과 멀티 레이어라는 요소는 본 Light shade에서 핵심 요소이다. 요소뿐만이 아니라 사용자에게 빛을 보여주는 방식 또한 Light shade의 논리를 이어나가고자 했다. 외부의 모습을 담으면서도 내부의 모습을 밖으로 보여주는 공간의 구성을 위해 불투명한 공간을 계획하였다.
Surface fragmentation and the multi-layered structure are the core elements of this Light Shade. Beyond these formal components, the project seeks to extend the logic of the Light Shade in the way light is revealed to the user. To simultaneously contain the exterior appearance and expose the interior, an opaque spatial composition is proposed.
각진 조각의 크기와 배치에 다양성을 주고, 이 조각들을 구형의 가상의 틀 표면을 따라 배치함으로써 두가지 효과를 도모했다. 외부의 빛을 다양한 모습으로 반사하고, 내부의 모습 일부를 보행자에게 보여준다. 내부의 사용자에게는 조각 사이로 들어오는 외부의 빛, 그리고 이로써 내부 레일에 조각의 그림자를 새겨 얼음 입자의 핵심요소를 시각적으로 각인한다.
By introducing variation in the size and arrangement of the angular fragments and placing them along the surface of an implied spherical framework, two effects are achieved: the exterior light is reflected in diverse ways, while portions of the interior are revealed to passersby. For users inside, external light penetrates through the gaps between fragments, casting shadows of the pieces onto the internal rails. This visually imprints the essential quality of ice particles within the space.
